Easy on-campus recycling for clothes, shoes & bags!

Got clothes you don’t wear anymore, but feel too guilty to throw away?

You’re not alone. Whether it’s an Orientation t-shirt you never wore, clothes from your Secondary School days, or that impulse buy from a sale rack — they tend to pile up and accumulate in the bottom of our closet. But instead of tossing them, what if there was an easy (and sustainable) way to give them new life?

Here’s the reality: In 2023, Singapore threw out 211,000 tonnes of clothing and textiles, and only 2% of that was recycled. That’s just 5,000 tonnes. We can — and should — do better.

That’s why the NTU Students’ Union (NTUSU) took action. After reviewing the types of waste commonly generated by students, we identified textile waste as a key issue. We partnered with Cloop, a local circular fashion company, to bring textile recycling bins onto our campus.

We first installed a Cloop bin at The Hive, and later relocated it to the Nanyang Crescent Hall cluster, where it’s even more accessible to Hall residents. These bins make it easy to recycle unwanted clothes, bags, and even shoes — just drop and go.

✅ What CAN be dropped in the Cloop bin:

  • Clothes

  • Shoes

  • Bags & accessories

🚫 What CAN’T be dropped:

  • Soiled, wet, or moldy items

  • Cushions or cushion covers

During busy periods (like moving-out season), bins can fill up fast. If you see a full bin, help us out by informing us via @ntu.su on Instagram so we can arrange a prompt collection.

This initiative is part of NTUSU’s broader effort to promote sustainability on campus — but it only works with your participation. So the next time you're moving out or decluttering, don’t toss it — Cloop it.

Let’s close the loop on textile waste, together.
