“TRUE EMPOWERMENT BEGINS WHEN EVERY VOICE IS HEARD, EVERY INITIATIVE IS SUPPORTED, AND EVERY ACTION CONTRIBUTES TO A STRONGER AND MORE INCLUSIVE NTU COMMUNITY.”
Dear Union Members,
My name is Darren Chin, a Year 2 Business (Actuarial Science) student.
I am deeply honoured to serve as the President of the 35th NTU Students’ Union. As we embark on our new term, I am committed to building a Union that truly represents, empowers, and uplifts every student.
Our theme for the year, “Empowerment Through Action”, encapsulates our commitment to turn your ideas into tangible impact. True empowerment begins when every voice is heard, every initiative is supported, and every action contributes to a stronger and more inclusive NTU community - one where every student feels inspired to take ownership of their NTU journey.
Guided by this vision, the 35th Executive Committee will continue to champion student wellbeing, strengthen representation, and enhance engagement across all aspects of your NTU journey. We aim to foster closer collaboration between students and the university, ensuring that our initiatives not only address current needs, but to also inspire long-term growth and resilience within our student community.
“Empowerment Through Action” is not just a slogan. It is a promise to carry your voices forward, to turn your ideas into reality, and to ensure that every student feels proud to call our Union their own. Hence, I wish to invite all of you to take part in this journey with us - to speak up, get involved, and act on the change you wish to see. Through collective effort and shared purpose, I believe we can build a Union that truly reflects the aspirations and spirit of our student body.
Thank you for entrusting me with this responsibility. And together, let us continue moving forward as one - with Voice, Service, and Vibrancy.
Best regards,
Darren Chin

Our Elections Process
At NTUSU, leadership begins with you.
Every academic year, NTU undergraduate students elect their peers to represent their interests, voice concerns, and shape campus life. Whether you’re passionate about change or simply want to support those who are, our elections process ensures every voice counts.
-
Union elections are held annually in September. The elections are conducted via a university-wide online voting system, where every NTU Undergraduate is eligible to vote.
The EXCO elections follow a two-tiered process.
Students first run to be Union Executive Committee Representatives (UECR) of their respective constituent clubs (e.g., Academic Clubs, Cultural Activities Club, Sports Club). These candidates are standing to represent their club at the Union level.
Once elected as UEC Representatives, candidates will participate in the Council Rally, where the newly elected Presidents of all constituent clubs form the Union Council. This Council will vote to appoint the UEC Representatives into specific EXCO positions — such as President, Hon. General Secretary, and other portfolios.
The election process is managed by the Union Election Committee and supervised by the NTU Student Affairs Office, ensuring fairness, transparency, and accountability at every step.
-
Any full-time NTU undergraduate student in good academic and disciplinary standing can run, regardless of faculty, year, or prior experience. You must run as a UEC Representative in one of the constituent clubs, and cannot be under academic probation.
-
You’ll need to:
Submit a nomination form during the official nomination period, with a proposer and seconder (both NTU undergraduates).
Campaign in your constituent club for the role of Union Executive Committee Representative.
If elected, participate in the Council Elections, where you may be appointed to an EXCO position.
-
While exact dates are released each year, the general timeline follows:
Nomination Period – Submit your candidacy.
Campaigning & Rally – Public campaign within your constituent club.
Voting Day – University-wide student voting.
Council Rally – Newly elected constituent club Presidents vote to appoint EXCO roles from among the UECRs.
