CCAs of NTU 25’: NTU Fashion and Makeup

Written by: Chantel Chionh, Chairperson

Love experimenting with your style? Curious about makeup but not sure where to start? NTU Fashion & Makeup is a welcoming space for anyone interested in exploring beauty, fashion, and self-expression. From casual workshops and styling sessions to creative projects and collaborations, we shape our activities around what our members enjoy. Whether you are a total newbie or an iconic fashionista, there’s something here for everyone to enjoy! Your fashion & makeup journey begins here.

So… why start a club like this?

Founded in 2024 by Chantel Chionh, a year 3 student at the time (and the current Chairperson and writer of this article you are reading), NTU Fashion & Makeup is a new student organisation dedicated to fashion, makeup and all things beauty-related. Our club aims to serve as a platform for like-minded passionate individuals to unleash their creativity and express themselves through makeup and fashion. Whether you are someone who watches makeup tutorials for fun, wants to learn how to dress better, or dreams of working behind the scenes at fashion shows, there’s a place for you here.

The idea for NTU FAM came from a shared realisation: many student productions require makeup services, students want to learn how to makeup and dress better without breaking the bank, and there wasn’t a central space on campus for fashion and beauty lovers. So we built one. A space where anyone, regardless of skill or background, could come together to experiment with their personal style, get hands-on with different makeup techniques, and build confidence in a fun, welcoming environment. Beyond just aesthetics, we believe fashion and beauty can be powerful tools for self-expression and empowerment.

What do we actually do?

Every Thursday from 7 to 9pm, members gather for our regular sessions which are organised by the main committee. Each week is different; one session might be on Korean makeup, another might explore nail art, body painting, or personal colour analysis. We also touch on styling tips, recommendations on skincare products, sustainable fashion, and occasionally bring in local industry professionals to share their insights or run masterclasses. The best part? You get to experiment and find what works for you, all while learning in a relaxed and friendly setting (and maybe get some free beauty products on the side). As one of NTU’s newest and fast-growing clubs, members can have an input on our suggested club activities and feedback will be taken into consideration to further improve our events and build (or ‘fashion’) our club culture.

We also hold workshops open to NTU students in collaboration with student clubs and committees. One notable example is CAC’s NTU Arts Festival 2025 where we held 3 workshops for Beauty & Wellness — Skincare, Makeup and Fashion Styling, where a portion of the workshop fees goes to charity. As we enter into AY25/26, we will continue to explore more collaborations with other student clubs and potential brands to conduct workshops for our members.

Outside of workshops, we mainly provide hair, makeup, and styling services upon request from other student groups for events like hall pageants, dance showcases, both internally and externally. Members who are interested can sign up to be part of the creative process, from makeup and hair to wardrobe and accessories. These opportunities let you apply what you’ve learned and gain hands-on experience behind the scenes. As such, these experiences offer a chance for you to grow your portfolio if you’re considering fashion or beauty as a career path.

What’s the FAM like?

Even though we’re a relatively new club, the sense of community is strong. People come in not knowing anyone, but soon find themselves laughing over makeup mishaps or bonding while curating a vision mood board. We’re a diverse bunch — some are here to explore a new hobby, others want to level up their skills — but everyone’s here to learn and have fun. There’s no pressure to be perfect, just a willingness and passion to try new things and support one another.

Outside of official sessions, we like to keep things casual. Think: spontaneous get-togethers, thrifting trips, group chats full of style inspo, and lots of laughter over makeup fails. It’s a space where everyone can be themselves, no filters needed.

How do I join?

It’s super simple. All you need to do is sign up during Welcome Week (we’ll be there, so come say hi!), or check out our Instagram page @ntu.fam for the latest updates. We’re open to everyone, regardless of background or experience level. There’s no audition or selection process, so if you’re interested, you’re welcome to join us!

We are looking out for members who are enthusiastic, respectful, and open to learning. You’ll pick things up along the way, and there’s always someone around to help you out. As long as you are into beauty, makeup, fashion, styling, or creative direction, we’d love to have you on board.

NTU Fashion & Makeup is a safe space to explore, create, and express yourself, while making new friends who share the same interests. So if you’re looking to glow up and grow with a community that celebrates individuality, join us and be part of something fabulous.

Drop by our booth at AIA Canopy from 11-13 August 2025 during Welcome Week! See you there!🤍✨
