CCAs of NTU 25’: NTU Animal Lovers Society

Written by: Amanda Hoo (Vice-President), Pratham Archit (PNP Director)

Since 2007, the NTU Animal Lovers Society (ALS) has brought together students who care deeply about animal welfare and conservation. As one of NTU’s most active and purpose-driven clubs, we believe in giving animals a voice, through hands-on work, education, and advocacy. Whether you're an experienced volunteer or exploring animal causes for the first time, ALS offers a supportive space to learn, grow, and create meaningful impact.

Our Mission

To champion animal welfare and coexistence, empower student changemakers, and create a compassionate community that raises awareness and drives real-world action, both locally and globally.

What We Do

1. Volunteer with Purpose

Our members regularly volunteer with shelters such as Purely Adoptions, Theris, SOSD, ACRES, and more. Activities include:

  • Walking dogs and socialising cats

  • Assisting at adoption drives and weekend rehoming events

  • Supporting fundraising and donation efforts

  • Helping with basic care, cleaning, and operations at shelters

This direct involvement not only helps animals but also gives members valuable experience working in a real-life welfare environment.

2. Lead Advocacy & Host Educational Initiatives

We organise and co-host interuniversity-wide -wide events and workshops, panel discussions, and collaborative campaigns with other NTU clubs such as the Psychology Society, Photographic Society, and more. Past initiatives include:

  • “Mental Wellness x Animal Therapy” seminar

  • Interactive photo and story exhibits on pet abandonment

  • Conservation quiz weeks and monthly “Did-You-Know?” campaigns on Instagram

These events aim to raise awareness, provoke thought, and promote responsible behaviour among the NTU community and beyond.

3. Engage in Outreach & Creative Campaigns

We run campus-wide campaigns and outreach programs such as:

  • Monthly social media challenges (e.g., "Voices in the Wild")

  • Awareness booths and quizzes

  • Creative competitions around themes like endangered species and animal rights

These platforms allow members to use their creativity and voice to educate and inspire.

4. Experiential Learning & Overseas Conservation

At ALS, we believe in learning beyond the classroom. Our members enjoy opportunities to deepen their connection to animals and nature through:

  • Guided trips to River Wonders, Jurong Bird Paradise, and Sungei Buloh Wetland Reserve

  • Wildlife photography and nature journaling activities

  • Upcoming overseas conservation trip (2025) in collaboration with NGOs to support marine or wildlife rehabilitation efforts abroad, this trip will offer first-hand experience in global conservation efforts and a chance to contribute on an international stage.

Why Join ALS?

  • Make a Tangible Impact by improving animal welfare through shelter work and awareness campaigns

  • Explore Career Pathways in conservation, veterinary science, education, or nonprofit work
