Contemp{minated}: A Wholesome Space for Every Dancer
Are you looking for a community of passionate, well-spirited dancers to grow and express yourself with? Welcome to Contemp{minated}, NTU’s very own contemporary dance club that celebrates creativity, connection, and self-expression.
From our first steps into this environment, it wasn’t just the movement or music that resonated with us, it was the atmosphere. There was something deeply heartwarming about being surrounded by dancers who weren’t afraid to try, fail, and try again. This club has become a safe space where dancers can express themselves freely and experiment with their own styles, all while being supported by like-minded individuals.
A Club for Every Kind of Dancer
Contemp{minated} is for anyone and everyone with a passion for dance. Whether you're an experienced dancer or simply curious to try something new, we welcome you! Our members come from a variety of backgrounds and dance experiences, united by a shared love for movement and growth.
Contemp{minated} is more than just a dance club. We offer a nurturing space where personal development is just as important as technical improvement. We believe in supporting one another not just as dancers, but as people through every step of our journey.
Our Purpose and Promise
Founded in 2021, Contemp{minated} was created to offer dancers diverse opportunities to develop both technically and artistically. Our mission is to build a vibrant community where individuals can explore their unique dance identities, challenge themselves, and connect with others who share their passion.
We aim to contribute to the NTU student body by promoting bonding, creativity, and wellness. In a fast-paced academic environment, we offer a much-needed outlet to move, feel, and create through our regular classes and big stage performances. Our club is committed to making dance more accessible, fulfilling, and fun.
What We Do
Our weekly sessions are designed to build both technique and artistry. Dancers attend basic and advanced tech classes, improving their foundations while also experimenting with different contemporary styles. Classes are led by our own members and our resident instructor, Shannon Choo (TRDOCo, One Dance Asia), giving dancers exposure to various approaches and choreographic voices.
Dancers are also given opportunities to choreograph and share their own works, building confidence and encouraging creative risk-taking in a supportive environment.
Outside regular sessions, we host our biannual production, Propulsion, and share the stage with other dance clubs in NTU for the annual Joint-Dance Concert. We also participate in external competitions and showcases such as Get The Beat, which offer insight into the local dance scene and help us grow further as performers and creators.

What It’s Like Being in the Club
Being part of Contemp{minated} feels like being part of a family. We cheer each other on, laugh at our mistakes, and celebrate every small win. There’s no pressure to be perfect. Instead, we’re encouraged to grow at our own pace and in our own way. It is a very supportive and safe environment where mistakes are part of the process, not something to be ashamed of.
Over time, this community has helped us shed the fear of “not being good enough” and embrace dance as a means of personal expression and emotional release.
How to Join
Interested in joining us? We welcome dancers through auditions, but don’t worry, no prior experience is necessary! What we look for most is your willingness to learn, grow, and express yourself through contemporary dance.
We welcome anyone who resonates with our values: curiosity, courage, and community. So even if you’ve never danced before, but feel drawn to what we do, don’t hesitate to audition!
