CCAs of NTU 25’: NTU Chinese Society
The NTUCS 41st Executive Committee
Written by: Li Decong, Vice-President (Internal) Designate
Welcome to NTU and the Chinese Society!
When I joined the Chinese Society on the first day of ECA fair, to me, it was just another CCA or club to help me earn some hall points. However, how one’s mind can change over time, having spent three entire years in this big community. I still remember the amount of passion and even rage we instilled into the practices when I was in the Drama Production Group, just to give the best performance to the audience; nor will I forget the fun time I had with my group members preparing and hosting the activities; I will also not forget the faces of participants leaving the room, looking satisfied, being happy that they learnt something new that day. But most of all, when I now stand on this piece of land named as Yunnan Garden, seeing the monument and paifang standing, and the motto of Nantah (Nanyang University) laid out in white stones, I feel so greatly the heaviness of our rich history and culture and the importance to preserve them.
So, who are we?
The NTU Chinese Society welcomes everyone—whether you grew up immersed in Chinese culture or you’re just starting to explore it. We’re a diverse, student-led community for anyone who is curious about Chinese traditions, language, and heritage with over 600 members last year. If you're passionate about preserving cultural roots or simply want to try something new (and earn a few hall points along the way! We are a Tier 1 CCA and there are LOTS of positions available, by the way), you'll find your place here.
We aim to make culture come alive, through workshops, seminars, performances and all other kinds of fun activities. Whether it’s bonding through tea ceremonies, learning the art of hanfu (Chinese traditional clothing), or laughing along a crosstalk sketch, we hope to give you both memories and meaning.
What do we do?
Our society has nine cultural groups, which are the following:
Cultural Appreciation (we hold a lot of interesting cultural seminars here!)
Hanfu (come and dress in hanfu and take wonderful pictures!)
Crosstalk (recommended for comedy enjoyers!)
Tea Appreciation (come in and have a drink! 🍵)
Calligraphy and Fine Arts (beginners-friendly!)
Music (come here and sing along!)
Diabolo (learn this unique and traditional skill toy/sport!)
Drama (new!)
Debate Squad (joining with us this AY!)
Our cultural groups hold weekly or fortnightly activities individually, and you can join as many activities if you sign up. Better still, join one of the cultural groups as a committee member which earns you 3 or 5 ECA points from the start. The level of commitment varies among groups—some groups are more chill and casual, while others are more performance-focused or project-based.
Cultural Appreciation Group weekly activity: Meeting with Xinyao songwriter Qi Zhequan
We also have seven supporting groups:
Publicity & Publications (in charge of social media and email)
Liaison & Welfare (in charge of group bonding and welfare packs)
Business Manager (in charge of funding)
General Secretary (gives ECA points, contacts with SPO and Student Affairs Office)
Finance (manages the society bank account)
Special Projects Officer (collaborates with SP committees)
Logistics & Technical (in charge of logistics and technical equipment)
The supporting groups will be helping our big Chinese Society to run smoothly. Although these groups do not have regular activities, we still hold group bonding activities from time to time and committee members are guaranteed to earn 5 ECA points.
Besides regular activities, our society is also alive. We hold annual activities on bigger scales, which are managed by Special Project committees:
Crosstalk Concert (affiliated with Crosstalk cultural group)
LNY Celebration Concert
LNY Celebration Live
Home Visit
Library Tour
Chinese Tea Exhibition (affiliated with Tea appreciation group)
Chinese Drama Production (affiliated with Drama cultural group)
Chinese Cultural Event
National Chinese Calligraphy Competition
Singapore Tertiary Chinese Literature Awards
Asia-Pacific Debate Chinese Tournament / Chinese Cultural Camp (rotated biennially)
Mid-Autumn Festival Celebration
Committee members can earn 3 or 5 ECA points, with main committee members earning 5 ECA points. If you are confident in your ability, you can also sign up to become the chairperson or vice chairperson of the Special Project committees, giving you 7 ECA points from Year 1 (you can’t find this elsewhere!).
Special Project Activity: Chinese Drama Production 2025
Thinking of joining?
You’ll get to meet us during Welcome Week, where you can try out some of our cultural activities—designed by our very own cultural group director candidates (and yes, they are amazing). No pressure to commit right away; just come, have fun, and see what excites you. But if you are already excited to join now, use this link to fill in the sign-up form: https://forms.office.com/r/AAs3BWg0YN
We’re always looking for people who are passionate, curious, and eager to learn. Some level of proficiency in Chinese is required and some groups may require prior experience if you’re aiming for performance or committee roles, but if you just want to take part in the activities and explore, no experience is needed at all, just sign up and have fun. Alternatively, keep an eye out for our annual activities like the Chinese Cultural Event and the Mid-Autumn Festival Celebration, designed to let every participant have fun and enjoy Chinese culture.
Final words…
If there’s one thing I hope you take away from this: the NTU Chinese Society is not just a club—it’s a community. Whether you stay with us for a semester or all four years, you’ll gain something meaningful. Culture isn’t something you just read about; it’s something you live, laugh, and create with others.
We’ll be at Welcome Week—so come say hi, try something new, and maybe, just maybe, find your second home here. Hoping you to join our big family and write your chapter here with us!

Email)
https://forms.office.com/r/AAs3BWg0YN
