Introducing NTU Women’s Rugby!
We’re NTU Women’s Rugby — the current Tertiary 7s reigning champions, and we’re just getting started. Backed by a long-standing legacy that has produced national players and consistent podium finishes, NTU has always been a mainstay in Singapore’s women’s rugby scene. We’re serious about our game, and we want to bring the love of rugby to more ladies from all walks of life.

A Second Family
The NTU rugby community has become a second family to all of us. Many of our seniors can vouch for how these bonds have grown far beyond graduation. Our alumni also frequently return to give back to the team, with our coach Joyce and senior Amirah being prime examples.
Personally, I’ve been playing rugby since I was 13. I started with BAC Aonyxs, with occasional stints playing for SG Valkyries—the local girls rugby barbarians team. When I first laced up my boots and picked up the oval ball, I never expected rugby to be such a huge part of my life. Fast forward eight years, I have been blessed with priceless experiences, friendships and opportunities on and off the pitch. Coming to NTU in 2024 after spending close to two years as a regular in the Navy, I was unsure about a lot of new changes to my surroundings, but one thing was certain to me—joining NTU Women's Rugby.

And I certainly have no regrets joining this team! I was quite rusty in the beginning, but under the guidance of our coach and seniors, we began to see quick improvements and smooth progression as a team, regardless of the skill level we started at.
At this point of the article, if you are wondering if you will need experience to join us, let me assure you that I am an anomaly in terms of game experience. As contact rugby is only formally introduced at varsity level in Singapore, most girls start right here in university. In fact, if you take a look at our team photo, you’ll find that (except for our exchange sisters), every single girl in that winning lineup started playing rugby only in university. Yes, all of them.
Some of them came from more familiar sports like basketball or touch rugby. For others, rugby was their first time joining a sport. That’s what I find most amazing about rugby — it’s all-inclusive, welcoming players of all shapes and sizes. It’s also a testament to how hard this team works for every win, both on and off the field. With strong support from the school, we’ve been able to chase some pretty incredible feats as a team. From perks like exclusive varsity access to the Varsity Gym (now AnytimeFitness@NTU), to full matchday coverage in terms of player management and team physio. You will definitely be well-equipped with all the tools you need to improve your game.

Work Hard Play Hard — Our Commitment Level
We’re serious about putting in the work. We have two field training sessions a week, plus a detailed gym programme tailored to our game demands. But we also believe in having fun as a team. You can look forward to team dinners, BBQs, and even overseas competitions — JB 7s 2024 is one of the many instances we’ve toured together.
We are also committed to ensuring a safe game for all. Our training regime ensures progressive training that caters to all skill levels, while ensuring that our players are taught to fall and tackle safely. As you commit to this team, we are, also, committed to you.
Growing the Game
Women’s rugby is one of the fastest-growing communities in Singapore, and NTU has given me many chances to give back and upskill. Recently, my teammate, Mielan, and I got the opportunity to attend the Grassroots To Global conference, where we buzzed with fellow ruggers from different clubs to brainstorm ideas to tackle issues in womens’ rugby scene. We then got the opportunity to present these ideas at the Women’s Rugby Town Hall. This August, Mielan will be Singapore’s spokesperson at the global conference in England, which will run alongside the Women’s Rugby World Cup. How awesome is it to be part of something bigger — something that keeps empowering women around the world?

More than a game, it's a family; friendly evening with SMU & NUS before Tertiary 10s.
The Gift That Keeps Giving
That’s why I believe rugby has always been the gift that keeps giving. All the love and effort poured into the game (and into growing it) will always come back multifold. Rugby changes lives. It brings people together — no matter what jersey you wear.
At NTU Women’s Rugby, we want to empower the next generation of ladies who’ll go on to shine on and off the field. If this speaks to you, sign up and join us. No experience needed — just the enthusiasm to learn, to try, and to be inspired.
This is Women’s Rugby.
This is our winning formula. And we want you to be a part of it.
