CCAs of NTU 25’: NTU Wine Society

Written by: Francisca (Publications Manager)

When I first joined NTU Wine Society, I thought it would just be wine tastings and some chill nights. It is that, but also a lot more.

What makes the club stand out is how we balance learning and leisure. There is no pressure to be an expert or to memorise flavour profiles. People come with all levels of experience, and everyone is encouraged to learn at their own pace. Sometimes you leave a session having picked up technical knowledge about acidity and tannins, and other times you just remember that one funny wine label that made the whole table laugh. You do not need to know anything going in, just show up, be curious, and enjoy.

Why We Exist

NTU Wine Society is for anyone with an interest in wine and beverage culture, from the casual drinker to the curious learner. Our goal is to demystify wine and related drinks, making them less intimidating and more accessible. We believe that understanding what you are drinking enhances not just your appreciation, but also your confidence in social settings. Beyond that, we hope to create a relaxed space for students to take a breather from their academic lives and enjoy something different.

What We Do

Throughout the academic year, we organise themed tasting sessions that centre around specific wine varietals, countries, or food pairings. Occasionally, we also dive into sake, soju, or whiskey for a change of pace, especially when we have external partners or collaborations lined up. These crossover sessions offer fresh experiences that keep the calendar exciting.

Each session is guided either by our committee members, invited sommeliers, or F&B professionals, depending on the topic. They are interactive and beginner-friendly, with no long lectures, just approachable learning in a casual environment.

We usually run about 15 sessions per semester. While you are encouraged to attend regularly, there is no obligation to go for all. We understand that university life can get hectic, and our priority is to keep the club as something enjoyable, not another source of stress.

The Community

Outside of our main sessions, we also share interesting wine-related happenings in Singapore. If there is a cool public tasting, a free masterclass, or a new exhibition at a wine bar, we will send the details your way. Members are free to join if they are interested, and sometimes a few of us will go together.

During our own sessions, the atmosphere is casual and welcoming. People chat over a glass, ask questions, compare tasting notes, or simply enjoy the experience. It is low-pressure, informative, and easy to settle into, whether you come alone or with friends.

How to Join

NTU Wine Society doesn’t require any prior experience, all you need is genuine interest and a willingness to learn. Sign-ups are usually open during the first few weeks of each semester, and we’ll be at our booth during Welcome Week to answer your questions, showcase our past events, and let you know what’s in store. Keep an eye out for updates on our Instagram or Telegram channel linked below!

Final Sip

Joining NTU Wine Society isn’t just about learning how to describe a wine’s finish or body. It’s about discovering something new in every session, connecting with people you might not meet otherwise, and making memories that last longer than a bottle ever will. Whether you’re in it for the knowledge, the vibes, or the cheese platters (no judgement), we’d love to have you.

Catch us at Welcome Week—we’ll save you a glass.
