CCAs of NTU 25’: WSC RSP: Friends of Children (FoC)

Written by: Lai Hoe Xun, Chairperson

“Be the reason for them to smile.” This is the mission that Friends of Children (FoC) has strived to uphold and bear witness to since our beginning in 2003. As NTU Welfare Services Club’s (WSC) biggest portfolio, our tightknit community of over 300 volunteers strive to inspire our service users to achieve their greatest potential through academic coaching and character building!

FoC has seen a significant growth since its humble beginnings, spanning 15 centres across Singapore and working closely with different Social Service Organisations. In this new AY, we hope to continue fostering strong bonds within each centre and beyond.

Besides our weekly volunteering sessions, Friends of Children (FoC) organises five signature events throughout the academic year that our volunteers can look forward to:

Volunteer Orientation Programme (VOP): A vibrant kickoff event where both new and returning volunteers come together for a fun-filled day of games, team bonding, and inter-centre interaction.

December Event: A heartwarming occasion where our service users are invited to NTU for an enriching day of interactive programmes, festive celebrations, and engaging activities.

Family Day: A dedicated day for volunteers across all 15 centres to bond through fun and meaningful activities, fostering inter-centre unity and camaraderie.

June Event: Much like our December Event, this mid-year programme brings our service users to NTU for a day of exciting activities and shared joy.

Volunteer Appreciation Night (VAN): Our annual dinner and dance celebration, where we honour and thank our volunteers for their unwavering dedication and contributions to FoC.

Each of our 15 centres operates on different days and times, typically on weekday evenings or weekends. Volunteers will be assigned to a specific centre and are expected to commit to at least 80% of the weekly sessions. This consistent attendance is essential for building strong rapport and trust with our service users — something we deeply value at FoC.
