CCAs of NTU 25’: NTU Biomedical Engineering Society (BMES)
Written by: Alma, President
Curious about how engineering can transform lives? Join the Biomedical Engineering Society (BMES) at NTU, where we’re bridging the gap between the biomedical industry and academia.
Our Purpose: Building the Future of Healthcare, Together
Founded in 2009, BMES is a vibrant student chapter that empowers undergraduates to explore biomedical engineering beyond the classroom. We create a platform where ideas meet industry, and where students get hands-on with real-world healthcare challenges. From AI in diagnostics to next generation medical devices, BMES is where innovation begins.
BMES Makerspace: Where Ideas Take Shape
The BMES Makerspace is our student-driven initiative that gives BMES members a chance to build, tinker, and prototype real biomedical solutions, whether it’s designing assistive devices, exploring medical sensor technologies, or simply experimenting with creative concepts.
Beyond Conferences: Real-World Exposure, Meaningful Connections
At BMES, we believe that learning doesn’t stop in theory. It's about experiencing the biomedical field up close, gaining industry insights, and forming lasting networks.
Company visits
Our members had the rare opportunity to go behind the scenes at Medtronic, one of the world’s leading medical technology firms! The visit offered valuable exposure to how biomedical solutions are conceptualised, regulated, and brought to market, giving students a real-world perspective on career pathways in medtech.
BMES Networking Dinner
We bring students face-to-face with biomedical professionals and researchers through a casual, yet impactful dinner event. These conversations spark mentorships, career advice, and inspiration, which help our members connect classroom learning to real-world application.
Award-Winning Impact: Carrying the Legacy Forward
Last year, BMES was honoured with the CoLab4Good Award for Service to Society, one of NTU’s highest honours for student-led projects that drive real societal change. The award was given for our flagship event, the Biomedical Engineering Society 17th Scientific Meeting (BES17SM), Singapore’s only student-run healthcare engineering conference, which brought together over 120 students and professionals for a day of biomedical innovation and learning.
This year, we proudly carried that legacy forward with BES18SM. Held at NTU, our event gathered 110+ attendees, 22 industry judges, and featured powerful keynote talks by Seung-min Park and Anle Lin — continuing our mission to connect, inspire, and lead in the biomedical space.
Ready to Shape the Future of Healthcare?
We welcome students from all backgrounds. Whether you’re a curious life science major, aspiring engineer, or just passionate about health tech, join us to learn, innovate, and connect as we shape the biomedical landscape together!
