CCAs of NTU 25’: WSC SP Ignite Change (IGC)
Written by: Quek Xin Lei, Vice-Chairperson (AY 24/25)
IGC Senior Camp 2025—this is just one of many unforgettable moments at IGC, where orientation is more than just games and icebreakers. It's where students step out of their comfort zones, bond over shared values, and discover the deeper meaning of volunteerism.
Our Purpose: Igniting the spirit of volunteerism
At Ignite Change, we believe that every spark of kindness can light the way to something greater. As a Special Projects portfolio under the NTU Welfare Services Club (WSC), Ignite Change is dedicated to both freshmen and current undergraduates to take the first step into the world of volunteerism. More than just an orientation, we offer a purposeful journey. Through fun, immersive sessions and meaningful interactions with service users, you'll build lasting connections, not just with those you serve, but also with fellow volunteers who share your passion.
What makes us different? Our strong partnerships across WSC portfolios and external organisations give you the chance to interact directly with service users, developing not just skills but a sincere understanding of the people we serve. Whether you're planning events or joining volunteering sessions, you’ll grow alongside a community driven by purpose and build friendships rooted in a shared desire to make a difference.
What We Do
We lead the annual WSC FOP, designed to introduce freshies to the world of volunteering through engaging activities, team-building games, and interactions with service users. This flagship event sets the tone for a meaningful volunteering journey across all 19 WSC portfolios.
Throughout the year, we collaborate with various WSC portfolios and external organisations to provide hands-on volunteering opportunities, allowing members to engage meaningfully with diverse communities and better understand their needs.
Last year, we partnered with our long-standing partner, the Muscular Dystrophy Association Singapore (MDAS), to organise an in-person nature event centered around collaborative games and heartwarming conversations. We also launched a new partnership with Friends of Children (FOC), co-organising a half-day, fun-filled event for children and their caregivers. Through these meaningful collaborations, IGC members gained valuable insights into the nuances of event planning and the importance of creating inclusive, engaging experiences for service users.
Our Community
At IGC, the experience goes beyond planning and volunteering. It’s about building a community. From casual hangouts and Christmas celebrations to Chinese New Year Lo Hei sessions and an annual Kukup bonding trip, we create spaces for members to unwind, connect, and form lasting friendships. Each batch naturally grows into a close-knit team, united not only by a shared commitment to service but also by the memories and laughter shared along the way. The club culture is welcoming and supportive, where everyone looks out for one another, both inside and outside of IGC.
Joining Our Club
Keep an eye out for our upcoming recruitment drive for main committee members on our Instagram page: https://www.instagram.com/ntuwsc_igc/. We would love to have you on board! You don’t need any prior volunteering experience to join us. What we truly look for is a heart for service, a positive attitude and energy, and the drive to make a difference. Whether you're a first-time volunteer or someone looking to deepen your impact, there’s a place for you in IGC. Come with an open mind, and leave with unforgettable memories, meaningful friendships, and a renewed sense of purpose.
Ready to Ignite Change?
If there’s one thing we hope you take away from this, it’s that making a difference starts with a single step. At Ignite Change, we believe everyone has the potential to spark something meaningful, no matter your background or experience. Whether you're looking to serve, grow, or simply connect with like-minded peers, IGC is the place to start that journey. And the best part? You don’t have to do it alone. Come say hi at Welcome Week! We will be there to answer your questions, share our stories, and show you how you can be part of something bigger. Your journey into volunteerism could begin with just one conversation.
