CCAs of NTU 25’: WSC SP Volunteer Movement (VM)

Written by: Nur Shalynn Erlina Binte Mohd Erfan, Chairperson

At WSC Volunteer Movement (VM), we believe that a busy university schedule should never stop you from making a difference. We are all about creating meaningful and accessible ways for NTU students to give back, even with packed timetables and endless assignments.

Whether it is bringing joy to children, supporting seniors, or caring for the environment, VM offers consistent and thoughtfully planned volunteering opportunities across a variety of causes. No experience? No worries. Regardless of your background, there is always a place for you here to serve, grow, and have fun while doing good.

What We Do: Making Volunteering Accessible and Fun

Every month, our committee organises a variety of volunteering activities and opens them up for members to join based on their availability, interests, and service users. Whether you want to spend time with children, assist seniors, or get involved in meaningful community work, there is something for everyone. These sessions are known as microvolunteering and are designed to be flexible, ad hoc basis, but impactful. Some of our past activities include the Moru Doll Workshop, Senior House Cleaning, Sports Day with migrant workers, a Science Centre trip, and volunteering at Willing Hearts Soup Kitchen. Each session is a chance to contribute, learn, and meet new people while making a difference.

Spotlight Event: Kids’ World

One of the highlights of the year is our flagship event, Kids’ World, a two-day camp for children from underprivileged backgrounds. The first day features games and activities planned by our volunteers, while the second day includes a learning journey based on the year’s theme.

Last year’s theme, Wildlife Conservation, brought the children to Bird Paradise, where they participated in an engaging programme on biodiversity and environmental protection. They learned about issues such as habitat destruction, climate change, and species extinction through hands-on experiences that encouraged a deeper appreciation for nature and a sense of responsibility toward conservation. Previous outings have also included the Science Centre and Nippon Koi Farm. The event is supported by 100 over NTU volunteers and made possible through the collaboration of our four VM divisions: Volunteer Engagement, Events and Operations, Client Relations, and Public Relations.

Our Vibe: Warm, Wholesome, and Supportive

At VM, we are more than just a volunteering club. We are a community of passionate individuals who genuinely care about others and enjoy spending time together. Our volunteers often invite each other for meals before or after volunteering sessions, and these casual hangouts help build a strong sense of camaraderie and belonging. Whether you are here to make friends, give back, or just try something new, VM is a safe and welcoming space to be yourself and grow.

How to Join: No Experience Needed

Still thinking about whether to join? You do not need any prior volunteering experience to be part of VM. From time to time, we also open recruitment for external volunteers from the NTU student body to support larger events. Just follow us on Instagram @ntuwsc_vm and stay updated on upcoming opportunities!

To get more involved, be sure to visit our booth during Welcome Week and sign up as a member! Some of our events are exclusive to members, so joining officially gives you access to even more meaningful experiences. As long as you have a genuine heart to serve, we welcome you to be part of our family.

Your Journey Starts Here

Whether you are here to give back, learn new skills, or meet like-minded people, we promise a journey filled with purpose, growth, and unforgettable memories. Come find us during Welcome Week. We cannot wait to meet you!
