CCAs of NTU 25’: Wushu
Written by: Rae Koh, Publication and Publicity (PNP) Head
NTU Wushu engages in various traditional and modern forms of Chinese martial arts to compete and represent NTU on an institutional and national level. Our members perform aesthetic routines which comprises a diversity of mesmerising forms and weapon types. We hope to connect people with Wushu, displaying the beauty and power of it. New or experienced, everybody will be able to explore new routines with opportunities to compete and perform.
NTU Wushu is extremely beginner friendly with lovely seniors who will guide you throughout your training. We hold biweekly training sessions on Monday and Thursdays, 7pm - 10pm where you’ll get to train in a friendly and supporting environment whilst forming long-lasting friendships.
We’re always on the lookout for curious individuals with a willingness to learn this art form. Whether you're drawn to the grace of traditional forms, or the energy of stage performances, you will get opportunities to perform and compete. Notable events in the last academic year included Invitational Wushu Championships, Chinese new year performance in collaboration with Chinese Drums, Mid Autumn Festival Performance and more!
When members are not practising for their next routine, NTU Wushu is all about building strong bonds beyond the training mats. Throughout the AY, we have planned various bonding sessions where we invite all members, new and alumni, to socialise with each other outside of training time and make new friendships!!! From post-training suppers to BBQ celebrations, these bonding experiences are at the heart of our club culture. It’s this sense of community that keeps us coming back week after week, not just for the training, but for the people we train with. Here are some of the images to show:
Row 1: Post training / event supper gatherings
Row 2: Other bonding sessions such as barbeque and board games
We also organise training camps during the recess week or schools break which will be 2 - 3 days of full, intensive physical fitness training and workout regimes to increase our member’s fitness level but more importantly, to also promote bonding between the members and build team chemistry and cohesion when performing group routines or forms. At the end of each day of the camp, there will also be a session of goal setting and personal reflections to enable our members to strive for their own personal goals and promote more active participation and contributions to the club’s activities and events as shown below
Interested? You can come and visit our registration booth from 11 to 13 August in NTU and sign up for our trial sessions through the sign-up link. We will also be doing a showcase performance on 13 August, 12.45pm to 1.00pm at AIA Canopy at NTU North Spine so do come and stop by to watch!!!
