CCAs of NTU 25’: NTU Photo-Videographic Society (NTUPVS)

Written by: Ngooi Jia Xi (President) and Jinie Agilia (Financial Controller)

Are you someone who loves capturing memories, telling stories through the visual medium, or simply curious about photography and videography?

Whether you're a seasoned shooter or just beginning your journey behind the lens, NTU Photo-Videographic Society (NTUPVS) is the perfect place to grow, learn, and connect with like-minded creatives.

Founded in 1984, NTUPVS is a vibrant and inclusive community for anyone passionate about visual storytelling—through photography or videography. We welcome students of all backgrounds and skill levels, whether you're using a DSLR, a film camera, or just your phone. If you're curious, creative, or simply want to try something new, you’ll feel right at home here.

Our club has three key divisions: Digital Photography, Film Photography, and Videography. Each offers unique experiences—from modern digital shoots to developing your own rolls of film in our in-house darkroom, to creating your first short video. Members are welcome to explore across divisions and discover their creative niche.

  2. Film Photography Darkroom Workshop, 2024

  3. Videography Fundamentals with Claudio Chock, 2025

What makes NTUPVS special?

Inter-Uni Photowalk, 2025

What truly sets NTUPVS apart is the people, the passion, and the freedom to create. One of our most treasured traditions is our photowalks, where members explore Singapore’s diverse neighbourhoods—like the vibrant streets of Chinatown or the rich cultural tapestry of Little India—with cameras in hand. These sessions aren’t just about photography—they're about connection, perspective, and community.

Beyond photowalks, we host a wide range of events throughout the academic year to deepen your skills and broaden your creative horizons, such as:

  • Hands-on workshops covering photography and videography fundamentals—from shutter speed and aperture to lighting and editing

  • Equipment try-outs with industry partners like Sony, where members can test professional-grade gear

  • Competitions, such as City Pulse, that challenged students to capture compelling urban stories

  • Film development sessions for those curious about analogue photography and darkroom magic

  • Collaborative events, like the Inter-Uni Photowalk 2025 with SMUSAIC and NUSPS, connecting students across universities through shared creative experiences

These events are designed not only to grow your technical skills but also to spark inspiration and friendships within and beyond NTUPVS.

One of our members, Jinie (Financial Controller), shared how the Inter-Uni Photowalk shaped her journey:

I remember walking around Geylang Bahru with peers from other universities I’d never met. I wasn’t the most skilled, but everyone was patient and willing to teach. I’ll never forget how a newfound friend taught me to use white balance—a small tip that changed everything. I used to rely heavily on editing to add warmth, but not anymore. What I thought would be a one-off event turned into monthly photowalks with the same group. We even meet during overseas trips now. I’m thankful for the chance to meet like-minded people and grow creatively.
— Jinie

Moments like these remind us that NTUPVS isn’t just about the perfect shot—it’s about the people, the stories, and space to grow.

What’s the commitment like?

We understand that NTU students juggle many responsibilities, so our activities are designed to be low-commitment but high-impact. On average, we host 1–2 events per month, and you’re welcome to join as often as you like. There are no compulsory meetings or minimum attendance—just opportunities to create and connect at your pace.

As most events have limited slots, they’re offered on a first-come, first-served basis. Whether you're deeply involved or simply dropping in occasionally, NTUPVS is here to support your creative journey on your own terms.

Ready to join us?

Sign-ups open at the start of every semester. Come visit us during Welcome Week—chat with our members, get a glimpse of our club culture, and view some of our past works. You’re also invited to our Welcome Tea, where you can meet the committee, learn about the three divisions, and discover how to make the most of your time with NTUPVS.

At NTUPVS, we welcome members who are curious, passionate, and excited to create. No prior experience is needed—just an open mind and a willingness to explore. Whether you're hoping to build a portfolio, pick up a new hobby, or connect with a creative community, we’re ready to welcome you!

Let your creativity take flight—NTUPVS is where your story begins.
