CCAs of NTU 25’: Varsity Squash

Written by: Gerald Teh, Men’s Team Captain

Welcome to NTU Squash Varsity Club!

We believe squash is more than just hitting a ball around a court. It's a strategic game that requires quick thinking and good technique. Our club comprises of students who want to play squash competitively at NTU and will represent the school in competitions. We're different from casual sports clubs because we focus on skill development and structured training. Our members include former junior champions and dedicated players who want to improve their game. This is what makes NTU Squash Varsity Club special.

Our Goals

NTU Squash Varsity Club aims to promote squash as an important sport at our university. We welcome players who are committed to learning and improving. This includes students with tournament experience and those with good basic skills who want to advance further. We work toward several objectives. We represent NTU in competitions against other universities. We help members develop leadership skills through organized matches. Each member helps promote squash within the NTU community and beyond.

Training Program

Our training follows a structured approach led by renowned squash coach and ex-player Zainal Abidin. Under coach Zainal’s guidance, we practice technical skills to improve stroke quality and do fitness training to build the strength and speed that squash requires. We also regularly play practice matches that prepare us for real competitions. We train twice each week. Sessions are on Tuesday and Thursday evenings from 7:00 to 9:00 PM.

Club Community

The club atmosphere balances support with healthy competition. During training, we encourage each other to perform at our best. You can look forward to the occasional supper sessions post training sessions!

Joining us

We're looking for students with match experience who are ready to commit time and effort to improve their game and support their teammates. We look for players who have solid fundamental techniques and court awareness. Previous tournament experience is preferred but we are also keen on accepting players with strong potential and dedication to improvement. Squash trials will take place in week 2 and 3 and will involve match play between applicants. This helps us determine if you're ready for our training intensity and can contribute positively to the team environment.
