CCAs of NTU 25’: WSC Regular Service Project: Youth

Written by: Muhammad Syahiran bin Mohd Azlan, Chairperson AY 24/25

Hi, I’m Syahiran, and I’ve been part of RSP Youth for the past three years.

RSP Youth has been a meaningful part of my journey at NTU. As a volunteer, I’ve had the opportunity to teach at the Singapore Boys’ Home, one of our partner centres under the Ministry of Social and Family Development (MSF). Being able to guide and support the youths there has been incredibly fulfilling. Watching them grow, open up, and take steps toward a better future is a reminder of the real impact we can make through mentoring.

With our beneficiary during an ad-hoc event

Beyond the regular weekly sessions, RSP Youth also organizes ad-hoc events with other youth-at-risk centres across Singapore. These events provide more opportunities to connect with different communities and create a positive ripple effect through small but consistent efforts.

Centre Volunteers during our getaway trip

What makes RSP Youth truly special, though, is the community of volunteers. The friendships I’ve formed over the years—with people who share the same passion—are something I really treasure. From post-session dinner hangouts to spontaneous short trips to Malaysia, these moments offered a much-needed breather from the fast-paced NTU life. Volunteering here doesn’t feel like an obligation; it feels like a place where you belong.

You might be wondering: “Do I need any experience to volunteer?”

Absolutely not. No prior experience is needed. All you need is the heart to guide and support these youths. Senior volunteers and centre heads will walk you through the process and provide training and support when needed.

The youths we work with often need help in subjects like English, Mathematics, and Science, mostly at the secondary school level. Sessions are conducted once a week after school hours, so it’s very manageable even with a busy university schedule.

RSP Youth currently partners with seven different centres, each with different areas of focus and timings. Whether you're looking to commit long-term or simply want to try it out, there’s likely a centre that fits your interests and availability.

If you’re someone who’s passionate about teaching, mentoring, or simply making a difference in someone’s life, I strongly encourage you to join us. RSP Youth’s mission is to build a stable educational foundation for youth at risk, giving them a chance to thrive in our meritocratic society. By investing a bit of your time, you could be giving them the motivation and guidance they need to move forward with confidence.

We’ll be at Welcome Week, so feel free to drop by if you have any questions or want to learn more about how you can get involved!

We look forward to meeting you and hope you’ll join Welfare Service Club (WSC), RSP Youth.
